For the fourth year in a row, TUMS Canada has joined hands with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, to help end hunger.
During September, also known as Hunger Action Month, TUMS has teamed up with Second Harvest to raise awareness and funds to help fight hunger in Canada. TUMS is supporting the creation of 375,000 meals for people facing food insecurity across the country.
According to data shared by Haleon Canada, there are four times more food charities than grocery stores, yet almost half of all food, over 21 million tonnes, is wasted every year. Since 1985, Second Harvest has saved and shared more than 432 million pounds of food, enough to feed nearly 400,000 people three meals a day for a full year. This September, TUMS announced that it will match donations to Second Harvest’s food rescue and delivery programs, up to $75,000.
TUMS Canada shared a few tips on how Canadians can take simple steps to fight food insecurity and waste. Donating is one way. Volunteering is another. Reducing food waste and advocating for solutions to food insecurity can also make a difference in the fight against hunger.
