32-year-old Tyler Booth from Ottawa honoured his late mother’s memory by raising money for a cause close to his heart. After losing his mother to cancer, Booth participated in the Ironman Triathlon along with his friends and raised over $26,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Booth started training for the Ironman Triathlon before his mom, Carole Rocheleau, lost her life to cancer. He kept up a tough routine, training six days a week while also working full time and caring for his mother. Along with his five friends from the Rideau Canoe Club, Booth decided to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society to help others.
While their goal was to raise $10,000, the group ended up raising more than $26,000. Booth says his friends were supportive from the start, and for him, it was a way to honour his mom, who always gave back, cared deeply for others, and put her family first even during her toughest days.
The group trained daily, often doing two sports in one day, and faced injuries and challenges along the way. All six friends completed the triathlon within the 17-hour time limit, with times ranging from just over 11 hours to a little past 13.
