The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie’s Embrace Hope Campaign

The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie is inviting the community to join its Embrace Hope campaign this November and December to support survivors of abuse and raise awareness about gender-based violence.

The campaign invites each community member to wear a purple scarf, which represents a survivor’s strength and the community’s shared promise to help end violence. It encourages everyone to stand together in hope, compassion, and support for those affected.

The shelter’s annual Embrace Hope campaign raises funds for local survivors while raising awareness about the ongoing issue of violence against women. The campaign’s signature purple scarves symbolize courage, survival, and hope.

A flag-raising ceremony has been organized to mark the beginning of the Embrace Hope campaign on Monday, Nov. 25 at 12 p.m. at Barrie City Hall. This event also marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, leading up to Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Dec. 6, which honours the 14 women killed in the 1989 École Polytechnique tragedy. For over 40 years, the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie has provided safety, care, and advocacy for survivors in the community.
