Canadian non-profit group ParticipACTION, in association with Novo Nordisk, is starting a country-wide event on June 1 to find Canada’s Most Active Community. The winning community will receive the title of Canada’s Most Active Community and a $100,000 prize to support local sport and physical activity initiatives.
The Community Challenge is open to everyone, including communities, groups, and individuals. Local organizations like sports clubs, community centres, businesses, schools, and city governments can sign up and register the activities and sports programs that will help people get more active where they live, learn, work, and play. Every activity or event registered on the challenge website and held in June will add to the community’s total score.
In the past, the ParticipACTION Community Challenge has been won by communities in Enderby, B.C., North Grenville, Ontario, Red Deer, Alberta, Salisbury, New Brunswick, and Hay River, Northwest Territories. In Hay River, the prize money of $100,000 was used by the community to improve sports programs and fix up Inukshuk Park, turning it into a fun, active place for people to gather, exercise, and enjoy events. You can learn more about the event and registration at ParticipACTION’s website.
Communities, organizations, and individuals across Canada can be a part of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge by doing any kind of activity, like walking, playing sports, or even cartwheel contests. The goal is to help people stay healthy and make local history. The most active community will win $100,000 to support local programs. ParticipACTION also gives funding to over 900 groups to help reduce barriers and offer more chances for people, especially those in need, to be active.
