Saskatchewan Joins Food Day Canada Celebrations

The province of Saskatchewan has officially declared August 2 as Food Day Canada, joining other provinces in celebrating the people and communities that help grow and produce food across the country.

Food Day Canada, now in its 22nd year, celebrates local farmers and food producers across the country. Agriculture is a big part of Saskatchewan’s economy, accounting for about 10% of the economy, supporting nearly 37,000 jobs, and representing 41% of all yearly exports. In 2024 alone, Saskatchewan exported $18.5 billion in agri-food products and processed $7.9 billion in value-added goods.

The province has marked a threefold growth in agri-food exports since 2014 and continues to pursue its 2030 agriculture goals as outlined in Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan.

The Ministry of Agriculture is supporting groups like Agriculture in the Classroom, Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, and 4-H Saskatchewan to help people learn more about farming and where their food comes from. The province invited Saskatchewan residents to join in the Food Day Canada celebrations by encouraging them to try new recipes with local ingredients, eat at local restaurants, and share their food stories and photos online using the hashtag #FoodDayCanada and tagging @FoodDayCanada.
