Blanket BC Society, a non-profit based in Richmond, B.C., is celebrating its 20th anniversary and holding its 15th annual Drive on the Line event on November 28 and 29.
Blanket BC is urging the public to donate blankets to bring warmth to those experiencing homelessness and poverty during the upcoming cold months. The number of people experiencing homelessness has grown by about 9% since 2023, reaching 5,200 according to the 2025 Metro Vancouver Homeless Count.
The organization is once again organizing its annual Drive on the Line blanket collection on November 28 and 29 to help those in need this winter. The group’s co-founder, Greg Ould, is calling for volunteers—known as “blanketeers”—to help collect donations along the Canada Line at stations such as Brighouse, Broadway–City Hall, and Yaletown–Roundhouse. All collected blankets will be donated to people in need of warmth this winter.
Blanket BC Society collects blankets, socks, pillowcases, scarves, toques, mitts, and gloves for shelter programs across the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
The organization is looking for 150 volunteers to help collect blankets and other warm essentials for people in need across B.C. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome, as they are the heart of the campaign. Since it began, Blanket BC has distributed more than 800,000 blankets and other warm items to those in need.
The organization says its mission goes beyond just giving blankets: “Providing a blanket is, in essence, like giving someone a hug.”
