Ten members of the Montreal police force (SPVM) are cycling 1,000 km throughout parts of Quebec as part of the 17th edition of Grand défi Pierre Lavoie to raise money and inspire young people to stay away from a life of crime.
From June 12 to 15, 2025, two teams of five cyclists, made up of nine police officers and one civilian employee, will be riding 1,000 km over 13 stages through beautiful landscapes. The first Défi Pierre Lavoie was organized by Pierre Lavoie in 1999. For the second year in a row, the route will explore new roads in the Capitale-Nationale region and surrounding areas.
For over 25 years, the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie Tour has been visiting schools to teach young people about the dangers of not being active and to encourage healthy habits. The event includes different physical activities for students of all ages, with a cycling marathon being the biggest one. The goal is to inspire local kids, help them stay active, and build a healthy, positive lifestyle. The annual event has given $37 million to schools to purchase equipment to date.
The initiative recently received two donations, including $10,000 from the Caisse Desjardins des policiers et policières and $6,000 from the Fonds humanitaire de la fraternité des policiers et policières de Montréal. These donations were given to the SPVM cycling teams and will help support students so they can take part in physical activities and stay active.
