Manitoba Harvest’s Meals2Go expand to Brandon

Winnipeg’s weekend breakfast program, Harvest’s Meals2Go, has expanded to feeding hundreds of school kids in Brandon. The program currently feeds 5,000 students each week in 15 schools and hopes to expand across the province.

Harvest Manitoba recently delivered about 600 Meals2Go to students at Brandon’s Betty Gibson and King George schools. The weekend breakfast program offers nutritious snacks to students in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

Students received lunch kits filled with fresh dairy, fruits, veggies, and snacks. King George School principal Robert Dinsdale says rising food prices are making it harder for families, with many facing food insecurity. The Meals2Go program provides consistent, healthy meals, giving students and parents peace of mind.

Mika Peterson of Harvest Manitoba shared that each snack bag costs around $6 and is packed by volunteers in Winnipeg before being sent to students in Brandon. Thanks to donor and government funding, the program has expanded, with hopes to reach more schools, including those in northern Manitoba, to help families struggling with rising food costs.
