Community Comes Together to Celebrate Abbotsford Canucks’ Win

Fans joined by car, on foot, by bike, stroller, bus, and even in wheelchairs to celebrate as the Abbotsford Canucks won their first-ever Calder Cup on Monday, June 23.

Around 500 people joined the celebrations on the South Fraser Way as they turned the West Oaks parking lot into a lively party, while many others drove by, honking horns and waving flags. Two months ago, no one thought the Abbotsford Canucks would win the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup, but the young team made history by giving their parent team, the Vancouver Canucks, its first minor-league championship win since joining the NHL in 1970.

Their amazing playoff journey, ending with a close 3-2 win in Game 6 in Charlotte, was powered by strong teamwork, experienced leaders, talented young players, and a never-give-up attitude.

The winning team invited the fans and local community to celebrate with them at a special event organized at the Abbotsford Centre. Fans joined the team players and the management along with the team mascots, Fin and the Fanboni. The Canucks won the championship with a 3-2 victory in Charlotte, finishing a strong season and playoff run.
