Local business owners in Calgary have recently been seen helping people experiencing homelessness. On a cold winter day, representatives from various businesses were seen walking the streets, distributing over 120 bundles of warm winter essentials, including toques, gloves, and scarves, to help some of the city’s most vulnerable citizens facing the biting cold without a proper shelter.
Among those leading the effort was Kurtis Urban, a local business that is also part of the Indigenous Incubator. As an Indigenous mechanical service company, they also encouraged more Indigenous youth to enter the trades, acknowledging the challenges many Indigenous people face, and invited those interested to get involved.
Another business owner, Imran Rajpoot from Dolphin Dry Cleaners, was recently seen handing out winter parkas and food to the vulnerable people fighting cold on the streets. Rajpoot has been accepting donations from customers, dry cleaning them before handing them out along with food to whoever needs them on Saturdays. Rajpoot believes in taking action rather than staying idle.
