Saint-Lambert’s Dr. Charles Vincent to be inducted into Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame

Dr. Charles Vincent is a highly regarded leader in agricultural entomology. He has worked as a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for 40 years, focusing on the economic impact of insects on Canadian food production. His goal is to create sustainable agricultural systems that are both commercially viable and environmentally friendly. Vincent’s achievements include developing Canada’s first viral insecticide, which has significantly reduced insecticide use in crops like apples, grapes, and blueberries. He resides in Saint-Lambert, Quebec, and was nominated to be inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame by the Co-Lab R&D division of Ag-Cord Inc.

Dr. Vincent is one of four agricultural champions selected by the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame as its 2024 inductees. Alongside Dr. Bruce Coulman, Dr. Michael Eskin, and Paul Larmer, he will be formally inducted on November 2 at a ceremony during the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ontario.

“This year’s inductees have made significant and lasting contributions to Canadian agriculture, enhancing opportunities for farmers and the broader industry, and elevating Canada’s global standing,” says Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Chair Phil Boyd. “Their mentorship of future leaders has also been crucial for the future sustainability of Canadian agriculture.”

Charles Vincent completed a B.Sc. in Agriculture at Université Laval (Quebec City, Qc, Canada), an M.Sc. (1980), and a Ph.D. (1983) in Entomology at McGill University (Montreal, Qc, Canada). From 1983 to August 2021, he worked as a research scientist in agricultural entomology at the Horticultural Research and Development Center (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada. He has served as an adjunct professor at McGill University since 1984 and at Université du Québec à Montréal since 1992. He has authored 186 scientific articles, 11 review articles, 51 book chapters, and over 200 technical papers, and edited 25 books or technical bulletins. He has presented at more than 500 national and international conferences.
