Reverend Paul Wilkie, a Prince Edward Island resident and Anglican priest, has dedicated his life to providing emotional and spiritual support to individuals in need. After over a decade in parish ministry, Paul discovered his true calling: helping patients and families in hospitals navigate grief and emotional trauma. Since 2006, he has served as the hospital chaplain at Prince County Hospital, where his role has grown to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of patients from all backgrounds, regardless of faith.
Paul’s daily work involves offering comfort and guidance to patients, their families, and even hospital staff facing unique and often overwhelming challenges. Hospital staff frequently refer patients to Paul when they observe someone struggling with grief, emotional distress, illness, or a difficult diagnosis. His approach goes beyond traditional pastoral care; he engages deeply with patients, exploring their emotions, understanding their perspectives on their illnesses, and helping them find solace during difficult times.
Paul’s flexibility allows him to provide tailored support, spending as much time as needed with each person. Whether it’s a brief five-minute visit, an hour of discussion, or an entire day by someone’s side, he is a constant presence, offering a listening ear and a comforting shoulder during life’s toughest moments.
For Reverend Paul, his work as a hospital chaplain is far more than a job: it is a calling and a profound source of purpose. He considers it a privilege to be there for people during their most vulnerable times, fostering connections that bring meaning to both his life and the lives of those he supports. His warm and empathetic approach continues to ease the burdens of countless patients and their families, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
