Belinda and Ian Park, a couple from Kitchener, Ontario, have been married for 31 years and have been playing the lottery together for just as long. After decades of trying their luck, the couple is now looking forward to a comfortable retirement following a life-changing lottery win.
Ian has always enjoyed buying Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 tickets when the jackpots are large, often using OLG’s Quick Pick feature to select his numbers and always adding Encore. Ian recalls that he went to the store to pick up new tickets and check the results from his last purchased tickets of the past draws. “When I scanned the first ticket, I thought I saw ‘$100,000’ on the screen. Upon double-checking, the clerk informed me that the winning amount was $1 million.” The couple wants to use their prize money to pay off their mortgage and help their children. With the couple planning to retire next year, their win could not have come at a better time.
“I instantly felt myself turning red,” Ian recalled. After the clerk validated the ticket, it hit him that they had won. He couldn’t wait to tell Belinda when she got home from work. “The clerk showed me the ticket and said, ‘We’re millionaires!’ I was in shock and could only say, ‘No way! We’re millionaires? I can’t believe it!’” Belinda said. Their families were thrilled when they heard the news.
Belinda and Ian won a $1 million Maxmillions prize in the July 26 Lotto Max draw. They bought the winning ticket at Rexall on Ottawa Street in Kitchener. “Winning is an unbelievable feeling,” Ian said. “We are both so happy.”
