Coffee entrepreneur from Halifax helping rescue animals in need

A Nova Scotia entrepreneur, Katie Lunn, has found a way to combine her love for animals and coffee. Rescue Coffee offers fair-trade, organically grown coffee that is roasted in Canada. Owner Katie Lunn purchased the business about a year and a half ago and shares common values and goals with the previous owner. Both are passionate about animals and aim to support partner shelters in rescuing dogs and other animals. Ten percent of the profits from the business go to animal rescue organizations.

Rescue Coffee Co. aims to make a positive impact on the communities they serve by enriching the lives of both the humans that produce their coffee and the animals benefitting from their rescue efforts. They offer premium, fair-trade, organic coffee and ensure safe, healthy, and fair working conditions for their local farmers and producers. Additionally, they donate 10% of their profits semi-annually to organizations that rescue animals in need.

Rescue Coffee collaborates with multiple partners such as PAW, NS SPCA, The PEI Humane Society, SPCA St. John’s, Save Our Scruff (SOS).

People for Animal Wellbeing (PAW), formerly Greater Moncton SPCA, is the largest animal shelter in New Brunswick, taking in several thousand animals a year.

NS SPCA services rural and urban communities throughout Nova Scotia through their locations in Dartmouth, Cape Breton, Colchester, Kings, Pictou, Yarmouth, Antigonish, Hants, Digby, Queens, and Lunenburg, all providing a safe haven for animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption services.

The PEI Humane Society is the Island’s ONLY Shelter for homeless, injured, and lost companion animals. The not-for-profit organization assists over 1600 companion animals each year with no operational funding from any level of government.

SPCA St. John’s is an adoption-focused agency helping homeless cats and dogs find happy beginnings.

Save Our Scruff (SOS) is a registered charity and non-profit organization located in Toronto. SOS is dedicated to rescuing dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. Save Our Scruff has facilitated over 2,000 adoptions, averaging 50 per month.

Rescue Coffee offers various kinds of uniquely named coffee blends including wake & wag, black dog espresso, go fetch, bark & bite, and downward dog decaf.

Katie Lunn is dedicated to supporting the Maritimes as much as she can and hopes to be able to support women-owned businesses in the future.
