Co-op Fuel Good Day raises awareness and vital funds

In a display of community support, Co-op locations across Saskatchewan joined forces for the third consecutive year to champion the importance of cultural engagement for children. Through their annual Co-op Fuel Good Day, establishments in North Battleford, Norquay, and Saskatoon collectively raised nearly $18,000 for the benefit of Creative Kids, while also amplifying awareness for the organization’s mission.

Andrea Lauder, Communications Manager at Saskatoon Co-operative Association Limited, highlighted the alignment between Creative Kids and Co-op’s philanthropic priorities. “We look to support our community, by finding the organizations that give back to community – connecting those in need with the resources that help them. In this way, Creative Kids was a natural fit for our support,” she explained.

The start of Fuel Good Day in 2017 has been a defining factor in Co-op’s commitment to giving back. During this annual event, Co-op pledges a minimum donation of five cents per litre of fuel purchased at participating gas stations to local charities in nonprofits. Since its inception, Fuel Good Day has collectively raised over $4.2 million across Western Canada.

Gloria Walsh, Manager at Creative Kids, expressed gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support. “Creative Kids is very grateful for all the people who purchased gas on Fuel Good Day. Because of Co-op’s efforts, over $27,000 has been raised in the past two years, which means many more kids in Saskatchewan can participate because the financial barriers were removed to their participation in an art or cultural activity. We thank these local Co-ops for helping us give the life changing, positive growth and development opportunities that activities such as dance, music, theatre, and art give to kids.”

Creative Kids believes in the need to go beyond basic needs to feed the spirit of children. For children or youth facing financial or social barriers to feel accepted and included, they believe that the longed-for chance to make music, paint, act, or dance can be life changing. The collaboration between Co-op and Creative Kids stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives, enriching the lives of countless children through a culture of inclusivity and opportunity.
