Thorold Classic Car Owners and Community Care Help Locals in Need

The owners of classic cars and community members in Thorold came together this summer to help provide food and other support to those in need in the community.

During the Thorold BIA’s weekly classic car shows, held alongside the Thorold Community Market, visitors were able to buy 50/50 draw tickets to raise money for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold. The fundraiser helps the non-profit provide food and other support to local people and families who need a helping hand.

Earlier in the summer, the Thorold Business Improvement Area (BIA) welcomed Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold to its weekly classic car shows at Battle of Beaverdams Park, where the local food bank sold tickets for a 50/50 draw. The community helped raise $5,595, with $2,797.50 going to Community Care to support people in need.

Community Care manager Maxine Hutchings said the donation is especially helpful because more people are coming to the food bank for support amid rising costs and economic uncertainty. The funds will help with the agency’s food program.

Community Care is also able to save money by buying food in bulk with other organizations through Feed Niagara and by getting special prices from local grocery stores. The partnership between the Thorold BIA and the city has made the community market a fun experience by bringing together the classic car show, market, and live music.
