A group of 20 volunteers from Sacred Hands Canada travelled all the way from Mississauga to Thunder Bay to join local fire relief efforts and support those affected by the wildfires.

The group of volunteers travelled 1,400 kilometres from southern Ontario to support people displaced by wildfires burning across Northwestern Ontario. The volunteers worked alongside local organizations to prepare care packages at Kiikenomaga Kikenjigewen Employment and Training Services (KKETS) to provide food, shelter, and medical supplies for fire evacuees.

The charity Sacred Hands Canada sent the volunteers along with three 26-foot trucks worth of donated emergency supplies, including personal hygiene items, food, water, tents, mattresses, and medical supplies. The Mississauga-based charity helps local people affected by food insecurity, homelessness, and other community needs but sent a team and supplies to Northwestern Ontario after seeing the scale of the wildfire emergency.

After learning that the wildfires had forced thousands of people out of their homes, volunteers from Sacred Hands Canada were eager to travel all the way to help those affected. The team also encouraged others to help however they can, whether by donating money, supplies, or their time.

The volunteers worked alongside residents, First Nations communities, and people from different backgrounds, including Indigenous, Muslim, Black, and white volunteers, as one team to support wildfire evacuees.
