Canadian hip-hop artist Dillan King recently ran the length of 86-kilometre-long Yonge Street to raise funds and awareness for homelessness.
King raised money for the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness by running the entire length of Yonge Street, the longest street in the world. Professionally known as DillanPonders, King took on the challenge last week. He started his 86-kilometre run at Green Lane in East Gwillimbury, Ont., the street’s northernmost uninterrupted section, and continued all the way south to Lake Ontario.
His run was dedicated to starting meaningful conversations and encouraging people to actively support people experiencing homelessness in their communities through food, clothing, and monetary donations. King experienced homelessness himself about 10 years ago and says that one of the hardest parts about it was feeling invisible. Every weekend, he volunteers at Carol and Crew to help serve meals to people experiencing homelessness in downtown Toronto.
In the summer of 2024, King ran 100 marathons in 100 days to raise awareness about men’s mental health. Through his current initiative, King raised money for the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness and inspired people to support those experiencing homelessness with compassion and real solutions. Toronto-based King is a Guinness World Record holder for the most consecutive weeks releasing an original digital single by a music act.
