Community generosity recently helped a young burn survivor, Kevin Smith, raise over $2,600 to send other young burn survivors to Burn Camp.

Kevin’s fundraiser for the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund raised money for Burn Camp, which hosts young burn survivors every summer. Kevin became a burn survivor in 2021 and has since been attending Burn Camp in Squamish every summer. The camp brings together young burn survivors from across British Columbia and the Yukon for a week of friendship, fun, confidence-building, and new experiences. For Kevin, Burn Camp has become a very special part of his journey, helping him connect with others who have had similar experiences.

Kevin really wanted to give back to a program that has meant so much to him, and he spent the winter and spring collecting bottles and cans while also accepting donations from family, friends, local businesses, and the community. Young Kevin was able to raise an impressive $2,603.04 to help enable other young burn survivors to experience Burn Camp.

The community helped Kevin in his efforts by donating water bottles and cans, contributing financially, and showing appreciation for his efforts. The community support reflected the good that can happen when people come together to support a meaningful cause. Kevin plans to continue supporting the Burn Fund by collecting bottles throughout the year and organizing more fundraising activities in the future.
