Peel Public Health is helping young people build leadership skills and improve their mental health through community partnerships. Peel Region is inviting community organizations to join the new Youth Wellness Champions program, a peer-led program where youth learn about mental health and how to support one another.
The program, created by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and adapted by Peel Public Health, has been running successfully in schools for several years, and now Peel Public Health is expanding it to community organizations so more youth can take part and benefit.
The program helps young people build leadership skills while learning how to support and promote good mental health in their schools and communities. The Youth Wellness Champions program aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen community well-being by training youth volunteers to become mental health ambassadors in their communities.
Interested community organizations can register for the program with Peel Region. Public health nurses will support training for adult leaders and youth champions, who will use these leadership skills to develop youth-focused activities in their local communities such as community volunteer days, digital wellness challenges, monthly group physical activity outings, collaborative art projects, and much more.
You can find more information about the program at Youth Wellness Champions or call 905-799-7700.
