A community grant in Halton Region is helping expand weekend food support for kids with the addition of two new commercial fridges at Country Heritage Park.
Local leaders and community members, including Trustee Marvin Duarte, Trustee Donna Danielli, Regional Councillor Colin Best, Jennifer Sully-Ferraro from Food4Kids Halton, board member Lindsey Billing, and program manager Stacey Halliday, gathered last week at Food4Kids Halton’s Country Heritage Park location to celebrate the installation of two new commercial fridges. This was made possible with a $30,000 grant from the Halton Region Community Investment Fund, which will enable Food4Kids Halton to store more fresh food and provide even greater support to vulnerable children and families across the region.
The new equipment will expand support for the organization’s Weekends Without Hunger program, which currently serves over 1,200 children from more than 800 families in Halton.
Jennifer Sully-Ferraro, executive director of Food4Kids Halton, said the grant helps the organization deal with rising food costs and provide healthy, high-quality food as more families need support. Each child receives five or six pieces of fresh fruit and vegetables in every food package, based on a six-week rotating menu. The new addition will help Food4Kids serve more children in a reliable way and ensure every child is treated with dignity and care.
