Grade 9 Students Across Canada Join Parents to Their Work for a Day

Hundreds of thousands of Grade 9 students across Canada took part in the national Take Our Kids to Work™ Day on Nov. 4.

Take Our Kids to Work Day is Canada’s premier annual career exploration program, in which Grade 9 students spend a day shadowing a parent, relative, family friend, or volunteer host at their workplace.

The initiative is presented by the Students Commission of Canada (SCC) and its national sponsors. This year, the 32nd annual program celebrated a theme of “Different Perspectives, Shared Direction.” The theme recognizes the diverse backgrounds, experiences, interests, and aspirations that people bring to workplaces across Canada. The initiative enables young people to visit different employers to discover new possibilities while learning how different perspectives strengthen teams, organizations, and communities.

Take Our Kids to Work (TOKW) is Canada’s leading career-exploration program, providing young people with meaningful opportunities to experience the world of work, discover diverse career pathways, and connect their learning to future possibilities. Since 2022, the Students Commission of Canada has led the national delivery of TOKW, building on youth engagement and empowerment.

TOKW 2025 connected more than 231,700 Canadian students with career exploration opportunities, while in 2024, TOKW reached more than 401,000 students nationwide through workplace experiences.

Founded in 1991, the Students Commission of Canada (SCC) is a national charity that ensures young people’s voices are heard and valued.
