Community Helps Carefor Resident Surpass Fundraising Goal

The community came together to support Carefor resident Melanie Freeman’s campaign, “Care for Seniors with Melanie,” as she smashed her expected goal of $12,000, raising a total of $20,000.

Freeman wrapped up her fundraising campaign on Christmas Day, which she started late last year. Melanie’s fundraising journey completed a total of 325,695 steps, which is roughly the distance between Pembroke and North Bay. She raised money through various initiatives, all aimed at providing additional goods and programs for her and her fellow Carefor residents.

Her favourite part of the experience was meeting so many amazing people who supported her and her cause. Melanie said it meant so much to live in a community full of kindness and generosity. At a ceremony organized recently to applaud Freeman’s endeavours, Steve Perry, president and CEO of Carefor, acted as the host for the presentation and said that in his 28 years with the organization, he has never seen this level of excitement around fundraising.

The funds raised by Melanie have supported programs like a new electric piano, painting parties, pet therapy, and rides to events. Melanie is already planning for next year’s campaign, which is expected to be even more successful.
