Community Angels Food and Housing Support Society, based in Chilliwack, is looking to expand its Seniors Food Support Program to Hope, Sunshine Valley, and Boston Bar within the next few months.
Community Angels Food and Housing Support Society is a registered charity that addresses food insecurity among low-income seniors. The charity is asking seniors who may need support, or people who work with seniors in need, to reach out to them to understand how many seniors need support in the region.
Brigida Crosbie, owner of Tydel Foods and founder of the program, says the program is community-based and meant to help people without shame, while listening to their stories and not letting them feel as if they are alone. The program is private and costs $125 a month for seniors aged 60 and older who earn under $26,000 a year. The fee covers meat, groceries, and fully cooked meals, while fresh fruits and vegetables, non-perishable foods, nutrition drinks like Ensure or Boost, and pull-up pads are provided free for a full month. Seniors can receive weekly deliveries or pick up packed food boxes, and for those who cannot afford the cost, the charity can help cover part or all of the fee.
Crosbie felt the need to extend support while delivering food in Hope last year, when she noticed many seniors quietly struggling to get by. Some told her they often had to choose between buying groceries and paying for their medication. The program, which started more than five years ago as Tydel Foods’ Seniors Program, is fully supported by the low-cost meat shop in Chilliwack. As more seniors asked for help and said they could not afford even the reduced cost, Crosbie realized the program needed more support. In 2025, it became a registered Canadian charity called the Community Angels Food and Housing Support Society, allowing it to apply for grants and funding.
