Thirteen-year-old Jake Campbell from Cape Breton raised $21,000 by selling hot dogs and collecting donations to help children and families in need.

Jake’s family helped set up a simple hot dog stand over a weekend with supplies donated by No Frills and Wonder Bread for the fundraiser. The initiative was able to raise over $21,000 as the community offered generous support. The funds will be used by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to support both children facing serious challenges and their families.

Last year, Jake Campbell and his family were able to raise $3,000 by selling hot dogs, and Jake had set a goal to at least double that amount this year. Instead, they managed to raise $21,000 at their hot dog stand in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S. Many people also made cash donations.

Make-A-Wish Canada was grateful for the strong community support and shared that Jake’s efforts will help the organization begin working on the wishes of 81 children in Nova Scotia who are currently waiting for support.

In the past, funds were used to grant children’s wishes, ranging from creating an accessible place in their home so they can spend more time in the fresh air to taking a trip with their families. Campbell was happy to fundraise for the foundation because it helps support more than just the children. Looking at this year’s success, Jake has bigger plans for next year.
