Alberta Nonprofit Supports Seniors Through its Friendly Visiting Program

A nonprofit based in Alberta, Community Links has a dedicated program aimed at bridging the gap for isolated seniors residing in the North Rocky View Region of Alberta.

The Friendly Visiting Program offers supportive visits for isolated seniors in need of companionship. It offers more than just conversations, as the program helps improve the safety, well-being, and mental health of seniors in the community. Last year, about 20 volunteers dedicated 700 hours of service to enhance the safety and mental health of Alberta’s aging population.

The program was established 15 years ago as a preventative service for seniors experiencing social isolation and a lack of meaningful connections. The program focuses on reducing crisis situations, decreasing isolation, strengthening coping skills, and enhancing overall well-being among older adults. The program currently supports 19 community members through 20 dedicated volunteers. Over the past year, volunteers have contributed 789 hours of service, resulting in 555 meaningful connections with participating seniors.

Community Links provides a wide range of programs and services for people of all ages living in the North Rocky View Region of Alberta, including Airdrie, Beiseker, Crossfield, Irricana, and nearby communities. Since 1982, the registered charity has supported individuals and families through every stage of life, from pregnancy and early childhood to senior care, making a meaningful difference in the lives of residents.
