Windsor Soup Kitchen Helps With Job Search

The Soup Shack, located on Goyeau Street in downtown Windsor, which offers free meals to those in need, recently organized a workshop to help its clients find employment.

Bobby Reaume, who is the executive director of Soup Shack, collaborated with the UHC to bring free employment services directly to those Windsor clients. Three UHC case managers were present at the soup kitchen to provide resume help, interview prep, career coaching, and other job search support. The Soup Shack became more than just a place where those in need can find a free meal.

The Soup Shack operated as a mobile kitchen for nearly two years before moving into a 1,500-square-foot fixed space at 636 Goyeau St. this past winter. This new location feeds about 200 people every night. Bobby Reaume understands people’s struggles, as he battled drug addiction for 30 years and lived in a tent community after leaving prison during the pandemic. He managed to turn his life around and get his old job back, something many people in similar situations rarely get to do. Using his experience, Reaume opened the Soup Shack to help others take those same difficult steps forward.

Reaume is excited about the new partnership that helps people find jobs, gain confidence, and connect with other support programs. Already, 20 people have shown interest in finding work ahead of a special job workshop. This collaboration offered an opportunity for those who otherwise would not have ready means of transportation to access the hub’s east-end offices.
