Sudbury Closet Share, a new nonprofit in the city, is helping the community in several ways. The Closet Share has been offering free clothes to families and other non-profits in need and selling affordable used clothing while keeping used clothing out of landfills.
Closet Share collects local clothing donations, including damaged items, and washes, sorts, and catalogues them into a tiered online store. Tier 1 provides free clothing to low-income families and organizations running social programs. Tier 2 offers affordable shopping options for the entire community, helping the community save money while keeping used clothing out of landfills.
In 2022, Melissa and Drew Porter founded Closet Share as a local non-profit in the Greater Sudbury area. Both founders share a passion for sustainability and helping others. Closet Share has been on a mission to make clothing affordable and accessible to everyone as it repurposes all unusable textiles into repaired clothing, rags, and new projects.
Closet Share’s clothing sales help pay its operating costs along with repair and maintenance of its washing machines and dryers. They are accepting donations and need used washers and dryers for their facility located in the basement of the old Diocese building on Ste. Anne Road, 162 MacKenzie Street.
