Small businesses have always been the quiet backbone of Canadian communities. They are the places we gather, the people we depend on, and the first to step up when someone needs help. This year, that generosity reached families facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Through the Good for Small initiative, local businesses partnered with Moneris to donate 250,000 dollars to Ronald McDonald House Canada. Their contributions will provide 1,004 nights of accommodation for families who must stay close to hospitals while their children receive care. For parents navigating long treatments and stressful days, this support means a safe place to rest and one less burden to carry.
Participating businesses from across the country each directed their support to the Ronald McDonald House in their region. Wing Snob in Alberta, The Mill Street Cheese Market in Toronto, Climb Base5 in British Columbia, Garage 16 in South Central Ontario, Royal Westcourt Social Club in Montreal and Quebec City, Piping Kettle Soup Company in Southwestern Ontario, Medicalux Private Care in the Atlantic region, Gumban Roofing and Renovation in Manitoba, Family Pizza in Saskatchewan, Howard Fine Jewellers in Ottawa, and Ocean Quest Adventures in Newfoundland and Labrador were among those who helped make the national donation possible.
Every contribution ensured that families could remain together during medical treatment. Ronald McDonald Houses offer far more than a place to stay. They provide warm meals, quiet spaces, wellness programs, and support for siblings so that families can focus on caring for their child.
This year’s effort continues the strong momentum from 2024, when small businesses helped raise 200,000 dollars for the same cause. Their ongoing commitment shows how deeply local businesses value the well being of the communities they serve.
The compassion shown by these merchants is a reminder that generosity creates a ripple effect. It inspires others to get involved and strengthens the ties that hold communities together. For the families who stayed close to their children when they needed them most, this kindness made all the difference.
