On Canada Day, July 1, actor Ryan Reynolds was officially named an Officer of the Order of Canada during a special ceremony in Ottawa, receiving one of the country’s highest honours.
His wife, Blake Lively, was there with him, happily taking videos and smiling as he received his medal. Ryan said he felt very emotional and proud, and thanked people and communities across Canada who helped shape him into the person he is today. He also gave a special shoutout to everyday Canadians who quietly help others without expecting anything in return.
Ryan received the honour from Governor General Mary Simon in Ottawa. The Canadian government said Ryan earned this honour for helping create programs that give more chances to people from under-represented groups, and for his generous charity work that has helped communities all over Canada. The Order of Canada is the country’s highest honour for citizens who make an important, positive difference in Canada.
Ryan has also received the Order of British Columbia and a national humanitarian award in 2023 for his kindness and good work.
