Pickleball to Bring the Community Together and Revitalise Downtown Brandon

The Wheat City Tennis and Pickleball Hub have partnered with the City of Brandon to create a modern indoor pickleball facility in the wheat city. A new pickleball complex is being built on Pacific Avenue to bring together the community of Brandon to celebrate their love for pickleball and help revitalize downtown Brandon.

This project will provide residents with quality recreational facilities for the growing sport of pickleball. The 35,000-square-foot building will have 14 indoor pickleball courts. Alternatively, it can be set up with 6 pickleball courts and 2 tennis courts, depending on what is needed.

In May 2024, the city sold three properties on Pacific Avenue to Philip Greenwood for $1 to build an indoor sports facility there. They also approved tax increment financing for these properties. Philip Greenwood is a partner in the local pickleball hub and already runs pickleball facilities in Regina and Saskatoon.

At Wheat City, pickleball has become very popular among all age groups, including children, and it accommodates different skill levels. The new recreational facility is expected to open by late August or early September 2025. This city’s initiative to sell city-owned land for $1 along with a 10-year 100% incremental municipal tax reduction prioritizes accessible recreational facilities to promote a healthy, active community.
