Geoff Kowalski from Prince Edward is organizing an inaugural 65-km charity run from Kensington to Charlottetown to support diabetic seniors in P.E.I. Scheduled for June 28, the Glucose Grind aims to raise money to support seniors living with diabetes.
Geoff Kowalski understands the struggles of living with diabetes and wants to create awareness about the issues of living with diabetes. Since running has helped Kowalski with his diabetes, organizing a charity run is a great fit. The money raised through the Glucose Grind will be used to support seniors living with diabetes in the community who are struggling to afford the care they need. Participants in the Glucose Grind can run, cycle, walk, or rollerskate; go solo or with a group; and join from any point of the grind.
Kowalski has partnered with the Community Foundation of P.E.I., a charity organization that assists Islanders who undertake charitable causes. Donations can be made through the CFPEI website, and interested participants can donate or register through the Facebook page for The Glucose Grind: Supporting Seniors with Diabetes. Anyone can sponsor a runner, or Kowalski also suggests a $50 donation fee for registration.
Kowalski is contacting corporate sponsors for the event. The CFPEI will collect donations from the Glucose Grind and send the money through the Provincial Diabetes Program to the groups Kowalski chooses to support. Kowalski has been training for months ahead of the event and is excited to get out there and do some good by bringing the community together and raising some money.
