P.E.I. Farmer Donates Crop to Help Combat World Hunger

Stephen Visser from P.E.I. recently harvested 16 acres of wheat, donating the proceeds to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to help reduce world hunger.

Through this initiative, Visser hopes to inspire others to give back to the community. The crop grown by Visser was recently harvested from a field located at Lower Newton on the Trans Canada Highway just west of Eldon on the way to Charlottetown. Signs were put up indicating that this was a Foodgrains project.

Local community members, Zion Church, and organizations supported the initiative and joined Visser in the harvest on August 8. Visser said he planned on having a Harvest Event at that time, celebrating the crop and the fact that the proceeds from its sale will be used to help those in need in various parts of the world.

Zion Church extended a heartfelt thanks to Stephen Visser and others for making the event possible. Other supporters included Phillips Feed Service, Syngenta, Island Petroleum, PEI Agromart, J&S Visser Produce, PEI Grain Elevators, Arp Trucking Inc., Cardigan Feed Services, McCain Fertilizers, and many community members.

Visser maintained that food is a gift, and he was happy to be doing his part to help reduce world hunger.
