The Corner Brook Royals, Deer Lake Red Wings, and other members of the hockey community in Newfoundland came together to help an 11-year-old goalie, Colby Dove, get new gear after his was stolen from the Hodder Memorial Stadium.
Colby Dove from Deer Lake has been playing hockey for two years with the U-13 Corner Brook Royals and quickly fell in love with being a goalie. At a recent event, he was shocked to find his goalie gear missing from its regular spot. When the gear could not be found anywhere, his mother, Patricia Dove, posted about the incident on Facebook, which quickly made its way into a discussion between the executives of the Corner Brook Royals. An island-wide effort made sure that Colby Dove received new gear and was able to get back on the ice.
Upon learning of the incident, Colby’s team quickly stepped up to help and challenged the rival Deer Lake Red Wings to join in. With support from both teams and the community, Colby received brand new goalie gear over the next weekend. The Royals and Red Wings split the cost, and volunteers worked together to transport the equipment from St. John’s to Deer Lake.
Colby’s mother, Patricia Dove, was deeply moved by the generosity, calling it overwhelming. The team raised additional funds by donating $1 from every playoff ticket sold. Billy Clarke Goaltending and Pro Line Apparel are further supporting Colby by getting him a custom helmet and participation in an upcoming goalie camp.
