Moose Jaw Food Bank Launches Online Shop and Delivery Service

The Moose Jaw & District Food Bank is set to offer online shopping and home delivery of food, thanks to an additional $25,000 sponsorship from SaskGaming. Recognizing that not everyone can visit the food bank in person, SaskGaming eagerly supported the delivery service program. On January 7, Megan Patterson, MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow, and Blaine Pilatzke, president and CEO of SaskGaming, presented the donation of $25,000 to Jason Moore of the local food bank.

SaskGaming has casinos in Moose Jaw and Regina, and its annual sponsorship pool of $100,000 is split between the two locations. The $25,000 is part of this pool. Moose Jaw contributes about 20% of SaskGaming’s overall income, so this percentage is the minimum amount that must be reinvested back into the community.

For 40 years, the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank has been working with a mission to end hunger in our community. The food bank provides healthy, nutritious food to people who struggle with food insecurity. Moose Jaw’s food bank helps over 1,500 clients each month. It serves about one in every twelve local households, many of which have children. This means around 800 households receive help each month. This number has doubled from about 400 households in 2022.

On October 28, 2024, the food bank introduced “The Harvest Pantry”, a client-choice shopping model that allows food bank clients to select their own items instead of receiving pre-packed hampers. This initiative was made possible through a three-year $90,000 sponsorship from the Moose Jaw Co-op, showcasing the non-profit’s reliance on external support. Since 2019, SaskGaming has provided $70,000 in sponsorship funding, now adding another $25,000 to support the delivery service program.

The Moose Jaw & District Food Bank is located at 270 Fairford Street West and can be reached at 306-692-2911. For more information, visit their website or Facebook page.
