Halifax Community Pitches in to Create its Permanent Arts Space

The community in Halifax pitched in to help create a permanent venue for its community arts space on Gottingen Street in Halifax, called RadStorm.

RadStorm is a non-profit community arts centre in Halifax that welcomes people of all ages to be creative and share ideas. The centre offers music rehearsals, a recording studio, live shows, screenprinting, a zine library, events, and art shows for local artists, activists, and community members.

With a recent generous donation by retired doctor Bob Fredrickson, along with support from community members and a $100,000 contribution from the Halifax Regional Municipality, RadStorm will now be able to keep its space and continue supporting local art, music, and community events for years to come.

RadStorm has been active since 2003 and is a rare and important space in Halifax, which has continued to exist while many other music venues and all-ages community spaces have closed. It was largely possible due to the big donation from 77-year-old retired doctor Bob Fredrickson, who is known in the community for caring for HIV/AIDS patients during the toughest years of that crisis.
