A group of CrossFit athletes from Halifax is set to compete on the international stage at Wodapalooza, the world’s largest fitness festival. Held in Miami from January 23 to 26, the event will bring together over 1,500 athletes across 48 divisions, with an anticipated attendance of more than 45,000 spectators. The competition also offers a prize purse of $567,000.
The four CrossFit athletes scheduled to attend Wodapalooza are Hannah Cameron, Stephanie Peters, Sarah MacAskill, and Trenton Gove. CrossFit involves functional movements that are always constantly varied and performed at a high intensity. The four athletes have been selected after their brilliant performances in events across Canada.
Hannah Cameron has been training at CrossFit Ironstone in north-end Halifax to prepare for her first international competition in Florida. Competing in an Rx exhibition at Wodapalooza, Cameron will team up with Sarah MacAskill and Stephanie Peters. Meanwhile, Trenton Gove will represent the gym on the men’s elite team.
The Canadian team, who met at CrossFit Ironstone, are eager to compete at Wodapalooza in Miami and test themselves at a higher skill level. The team will compete in the elite category, the highest level at Wodapalooza. For Trenton Gove, this marks his third time at Wodapalooza, but his first in the elite division.
