Communities Raise over $18 million to End Breast Cancer

More than 60,000 people across 50 communities in Canada participated in the annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, raising more than $18 million to support breast cancer research, advocacy, and programs that help Canadians affected by the disease.

The event brought people together from coast to coast to show hope, strength, and support for those living with breast cancer. CIBC has been the title sponsor of the event for nearly 30 years. Hundreds of volunteers support the annual fundraising event, working toward fighting breast cancer in Canada. Since 1992, the event has raised more than $540 million for the Canadian Cancer Society. This funding has helped researchers make important discoveries and develop new treatments and methods that are now used around the world to better detect and treat breast cancer.

Last year, money raised through the Run helped the Canadian Cancer Society make a significant difference by supporting 76 breast cancer research projects and 23 clinical trials across Canada. The funds also provided more than 2,500 nights of free lodging for patients and caregivers travelling for treatment. Over 1.5 million people accessed trusted breast cancer information on cancer.ca, and 4,200 people received help through the Cancer Information Helpline. In addition, more than 1,300 Canadians received breast prostheses and wigs to help them feel more comfortable and confident during their recovery.
