Alberta recently hosted Airdrie P.O.W.E.R.’s Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk to support women facing domestic abuse. The initiative has raised over $16,000 so far, and donations are open until the end of March.
The Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk by P.O.W.E.R. is a family-friendly event that supports local charities. This year, it brought together 68 walkers in 15 teams to help those facing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. is a non-profit that seeks to provide women in Airdrie and District with the means to leave an abusive environment through emergency resources, education, and empowerment, thereby creating a safe and sustainable community.
Crystal Boys, the founder of Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. (Protecting Our Women with Emergency Resources), shared that the fundraiser is a Canada-wide event that supports organizations helping those facing homelessness, hunger, and hardship. Boys shared that the walk had a great turnout, with beautiful weather, a supportive community, and warm soup to end the event. St. Paul’s Church hosted the community gathering afterwards.
