Students at Mt. Lehman Elementary offered 100 handwritten cards to Sgt. David Scrivens, containing messages for Canadian soldiers serving overseas.
As part of this thoughtful initiative, many Canadian soldiers stationed abroad will soon receive special notes written by dozens of Abbotsford students. On Friday, Nov. 7, students at Mt. Lehman Elementary presented their latest projects to Sgt. Scrivens of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The veteran from Langley watched proudly as students from kindergarten to Grade 5 sang the national anthem, stood at attention for The Last Post, presented handmade wreaths, and waved their cards while singing patriotic songs. The cards featured Remembrance Day artwork and personal messages for Canadian soldiers. Scrivens said he felt honoured to represent the Canadian Armed Forces at the event, one of several he attended before Remembrance Day.
As a longtime soldier, Scrivens understands how much support from young Canadians means to those serving far from home. More than 100 handwritten cards made by Mt. Lehman Elementary students will be sent to troops overseas.
