The Community Services Access Point Society, a non-profit organization in Vancouver, BC, recently received a surprising donation of 600 pairs of waterproof shoes from Vessi, a local shoe company.
Timothy Moorley, the founder of the Community Services Access Point Society, explained that the importance of dry feet in the coming months can not be overstated. While a sweater can keep people warm, he believes that keeping people’s feet dry in the coming rainy months is key to keeping them warm and in good spirits. Moorley had begun distributing the shoes to Downtown Eastside Vancouver residents shortly after receiving the donation, which came at a crucial time following the first atmospheric river of the fall season.
Timothy initially reached out to Vessi with hopes of securing some support after seeing the challenges that the wet weather poses to those in the community. To his surprise, Vessi’s donation far exceeded his expectations. The shoes, which were designed specifically to be waterproof, were seen as a valuable resource for people who often struggled to stay dry in the winter rainy weather. Timothy also received some kids’ shoes as well, which he plans to donate to neighbouring schools.
The company that donated, Vessi, shared that as a Canadian company that started in the Vancouver area, they felt a strong responsibility to support community members that rain impacts the most. The company has previously donated to other organizations in the region and expressed a commitment to continuing these efforts in future.
Timothy founded the Community Services Access Point Society in 2022 after a work accident that resulted in the loss of one of his legs. Being unable to return to his work, he found his life’s mission in giving back to the community and helping those in need around him.
