Carstar Kelowna and Glass Service partnered with Mamas for Mamas to donate a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan to a deserving single mother in need. The emotional event highlighted how generosity can transform lives. Jesse Clifford from Carstar Kelowna, alongside Sunney Weir and Vanessa Tregarthen from Mamas for Mamas, presented the vehicle to the recipient earlier in October.
Mamas for Mamas, a national charitable organization supporting mothers and caregivers in crisis, typically helps with essentials like food or rent. This van marks the largest item the organization has been able to provide to date.
The donated van will have a long-lasting impact on the recipient and her family, offering them a significant step forward in their journey. Although the mother of two was not present at the handover event, she planned to surprise her children by picking them up from school in their new vehicle.
Vanessa Tregarthen, a caseworker with Mamas for Mamas, found the moment particularly meaningful. Reflecting on her own childhood, she shared how her single mother also faced transportation challenges and recalled the joy of finally having a vehicle. For Vanessa, being part of this initiative was especially fulfilling, as it allowed her to bring the same sense of happiness to another family.
Carstar Kelowna’s decision to donate the van began in February when they decided to repurpose one of their old courtesy vehicles for someone in need. An online contest invited nominations, and the winner was selected from those submitted by Mamas for Mamas. The non-profit has been a key resource for single mothers across Canada, providing vital support to those facing difficult circumstances.
Before handing over the keys, Carstar Kelowna ensured the vehicle was in excellent condition. They replaced the tires, worked on the suspension, completed an oil change, and installed a new windshield. These essential repairs addressed maintenance that would otherwise pose a financial challenge for a single parent.
While details about the recipient remain confidential, Mamas for Mamas revealed that she is a single mother of two who has faced significant hardships, including unreliable transportation. She has relied on the organization’s resources for some time, and receiving this vehicle represents a pivotal moment for her family.
Carstar Kelowna, located at 920 Leathead Road, continues to show how local businesses can make a meaningful difference in their communities. Their commitment to helping others underscores the positive change that can come from community-focused initiatives.
