Sask. 5th-grader raises over 3k for kids with cancer

Beckett Sorenson, a Grade 5 student at Wakaw School in Saskatchewan, recently raised $3,290 for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital by cutting and donating his hair to Angel Hair For Kids, an organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair.

With his action, Beckett Sorenson was able to make a difference for the better in the lives of children fighting cancer. Sorenson had been growing his hair for around three years. His mother gave him the idea to get rid of his locks and donate them for kids suffering from cancer – together, they decided to donate his hair to Angel Hair For Kids.

At the same time, Ange and Beckett started fundraising and approached the school to get involved in the efforts. A total of $3,290 was raised for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

Wakaw School celebrated a Warrior of the Month assembly during the final days of the 2023-24 school year. Beckett had his 12-inch long hair cut during the event, with the school and community showing their support. Beckett felt like a new person after the haircut, with his friends expressing their surprise at his new look.

Angel Hair For Kids believes that providing wigs or hair loss solutions can help boost a child’s self-esteem and confidence during a challenging time in their young life. This one-of-its-kind organization in Canada arranges personalized salon appointments for each recipient at specialized wig and hair loss salons.
