Quaker Canada chose Délı̨nę, Northwest Territories, known as the birthplace of hockey, to upgrade the kitchen at The Jerry Vital Memorial Arena with a Quaker Breakfast Bar makeover. This renovation is part of Quaker’s ‘You’ve Got This’ campaign, which aims to support hockey communities. The new kitchen provides nutritious breakfast options that are high in protein, including Quaker’s Protein oatmeal line, to help fuel both athletes and residents.
Quaker, a trusted brand for nearly 150 years, launched its first global campaign, “You’ve Got This,” to celebrate everyday people who inspire and support others. The campaign focuses on fueling unsung heroes who give us the strength and nourishment to face important days. This marks a new direction for the brand, highlighted by initiatives honouring these heroes, including a visually striking TV commercial directed by BAFTA-winning director Charlotte Wells.
For over 30 years, the arena has been a central part of the Délı̨nę community, hosting not only hockey games but also year-round activities like drumming, dancing, sewing, and community meals for the Délı̨nę First Nations. This renovation is a significant step for the community as the arena serves as a gathering place for both sports and social events. Quaker Canada’s investment in a health-focused breakfast bar strengthens the community’s connection to both its cultural traditions and its athletic roots.
“It’s been an honour to collaborate with Quaker Canada over the last couple of years on this project. Seeing it come to fruition this August has been a wonderful experience as it means a lot to me and the people in our community,” says Danny Gaudet, ?ekw’ahtide’ (chief) of Délı̨ne.
The Quaker Breakfast Bar initiative began last year to support hockey communities across Canada. The first renovation was in Navan, Ontario, where it helped bring the community together and reignite their passion for hockey. Délı̨nę was chosen for the second renovation because of its deep love for hockey and strong community bonds, with support from local government officials and the community.
The Jerry Vital Memorial Arena, home to the Délı̨nę Braves and Délı̨nę Chiefs (also known as the Oldtimers), hosts an annual free hockey camp led by NHL players to inspire the next generation of athletes. Some participants even travel from other nearby areas to attend. With Délı̨nę’s remote location, rich hockey history, and traditional use of oats in dishes like caribou stew, Quaker saw it as the perfect fit for the second year of their Breakfast Bar campaign.
