In October, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba presented the keys to four families in Virden, Winkler, and Brandon, giving them the gift of a stable and secure home. Through Habitat’s affordable homeownership program and a unique financing partnership, community partners and dedicated volunteers made this life-changing opportunity possible, helping families achieve safe and decent housing while gaining a foundation of strength, stability, and security in their community.
Habitat Manitoba’s affordable homeownership program has been a key source of support for over 260 families across the province of Manitoba. This program offers a unique financing model that allows families in the community to achieve homeownership. The largest portion of the funding for Habitat Homes comes from mortgage payments made by these families, which, in turn, helps support future home-building projects. Additionally, donations from local community members, businesses, and corporations have been vital in making the construction of these homes possible, as they contribute both in funds and volunteer labour.
In 2024, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba aims to complete 23 homes across the province, continuing its mission to provide affordable housing. Last year, 19 Habitat Partner families in communities including Winnipeg, Brandon, Dauphin, Landmark, Morden, Portage La Prairie, and Winkler received the keys to their new homes, marking a significant step toward stability and homeownership for these families.
Since 2019, Habitat Manitoba has seen significant community-driven support, including a dedicated funding commitment aimed at furthering its mission. This funding has helped advance numerous housing projects, ensuring that more families in need have access to safe and affordable housing, giving everyone the chance they deserve to own their own home.
The journey to homeownership through Habitat Manitoba is an intensive and rewarding process, one that requires dedication from future homeowners and the support of the broader community. This commitment helps ensure long-term success for the families and contributes to the creation of more homes in the future.
In addition to these efforts, Habitat Manitoba is currently undertaking other major development projects. In Winnipeg, the organization is building a large community of townhouses in Transcona, set to provide homes to 40 families by the year 2026. Another project that is underway is the construction of new housing developments for 20 families on Panet Avenue in Winnipeg.
