315 athletes from different parts of Canada are representing the country in the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which began on July 26 and will conclude on August 11. Canada’s participation in the 2024 Olympic Games marks Canada’s 29th participation in the multi-sport competition.
Team Canada has earned 11 medals and will soon have 12, thanks to Wyatt Sanford in boxing. On Day 7, Canada also secured a bronze medal in trampoline, a third-place finish for Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gaby Dabrowski, another medal in the pool, an impressive performance in the 10K from Mo Ahmed, and the men’s basketball team went 3-0 in group play.
As pictured in featured image on this post, Canada’s Summer McIntosh won a gold medal and set an Olympic record in the women’s 200m butterfly in Paris on Thursday, August 1st. She finished with a time of 2:03.03, making it her second gold medal of the 2024 Olympic Games.
On Friday. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gaby Dabrowski secured a bronze medal in tennis mixed-doubles by defeating Wesley Koolhof and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands. The Canadian pair won in straight sets, scoring 6-3 in the first set and closing out the second set in a tiebreaker. This win marks the second-ever Olympic medal in tennis for Canada, with the first being secured by Daniel Nestor and Sébastien Lareau in men’s doubles at the 2000 Sydney Games.
Just before the weekend matches, Canada had won a total of 11 medals with 5 medals in swimming (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze), 1 gold in Judo, 1 silver medal in Rugby, 1 bronze medal each in Fencing, Diving, and Tennis, and 3 bronze medals in trampoline.
In the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Canada brought home 24 medals including 7 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze.
