Fredericton-based artist Bronwyn Robichaud is graciously contributing proceeds from the sale of her artwork to support after-school music programs for children within the Elsipogtog First Nation community. Robichaud has inaugurated an art exhibition at a local Coffee House, where twenty percent of the earnings from each print and painting sold will be directed towards Sistema’s Elsipogtog center.
The complimentary music programs are offered by Sistema, a reputable organization operating in nine regions throughout New Brunswick. Sistema’s overarching mission is to nurture confidence and self-esteem among underserved youth through the transformative power of music.
“It’s helping [the children] strive for excellence and showing them they can do whatever they put their minds to, and the arts have taught that to me,” “I really want that to be passed on to other generations,” Robichaud said.
Robichaud has already successfully vended several pieces and fielded numerous inquiries. Her ambitious target is to raise $6,000 in support of the program.
At present, the after-school music initiative accommodates twenty-eight students from the Elsipogtog First Nation Community School. Financial backing for the program is sourced from the provincial government, the Elsipogtog First Nation Band, as well as select private benefactors. This music program plays a pivotal role in facilitating the holistic development of participating children. It not only imparts proficiency across a range of musical instruments but also fosters personal growth, enabling students to break free from their inhibitions and unlock a realm of boundless opportunities. Sistema’s organizational structure further facilitates the progression of highly skilled students, offering pathways into regional and provincial orchestras.
Two eighth graders, Daniel Milliea and Brian Augustine, were distinguished for their exceptional talent and have since been given the remarkable opportunity to journey to Moncton twice a week, where they collaborate and perform with the esteemed Sistema group in Moncton.
