Alberta recognizes exceptional achievements in sports

Nominations are now open for the Alberta Sport Recognition Awards, which celebrate exceptional athletes, teams, coaches, officials, and volunteers from Alberta’s sports community. The program offers five annual awards and two biennial awards to honour those who have made outstanding contributions to sports in the province. Nominations are open until January 15, 2025, providing a chance to recognize the remarkable efforts of individuals and teams who inspire excellence in Alberta sports.

The Alberta Sport Recognition program, established in 1987, honours the dedication and achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers who have significantly contributed to the province’s sporting landscape. The awards are based on competitive results from 2024.

Nominations are now open for the following 2024 award categories:

Junior Female and Male Athlete of the Year

Junior Team of the Year

Open Female and Male Athlete of the Year

Open Team of the Year

Coach and Technical Officials Recognition Award

Sport Volunteer Award

In addition, biennial awards celebrating the contributions of coach developers and officials will also be presented in 2024:

Don Watts Coach Developer Award

Sport Volunteer Recognition Award

The winners of the 2023 awards were honoured in a ceremony earlier this year in May, which celebrated the best in sport from across the province, including outstanding athletes, dedicated coaches, and officials. These individuals not only excel in their fields but also play a crucial role in strengthening Alberta’s reputation as a leader in sports. Their contributions help make the province a wonderful place to live, visit, and play.

Nominations will close on Jan. 15, 2025. Visit the Alberta Sport Recognition Awards web page for more information on how to nominate individuals or teams.
