$1 Clothing Sale in Saskatoon to support child welfare

Earlier this month, Safe Families Canada Battlefords hosted its annual $1 clothing sale at the Living Faith Chapel in North Battleford. The community came together to support the event by donating clothing or coming out to shop. The community’s generosity was truly remarkable as the event raised more than $10,000 for Safe Families Canada Battlefords through the clothing sale.

The $1 clothing sale provides an excellent opportunity for the community to access affordable, gently used clothing and encourages residents to declutter their closets by donating items. This year’s success was fueled by the hope of exceeding past fundraising amounts, and the community responded generously.

The proceeds from the sale, which totaled just over $10,000, will support the ongoing operations of Safe Families Canada Battlefords. In addition to making affordable clothing available, the event also gave away numerous items post-sale. SFCB collaborates with local organizations to recruit volunteers who assist families facing difficulties by providing in-home childcare, friendship, guidance, and a supportive community.

While child welfare agencies address situations of abuse or neglect, many struggling families do not meet the necessary criteria for intervention. In the face of economic challenges, substance abuse, and social isolation, these parents find it hard to maintain a safe environment. Safe Families offers a compassionate solution, allowing parents to place their children in temporary care while retaining custody, with support provided by dedicated volunteers from Safe Families Canada Battlefords and Saskatoon.

Organizers are thankful to all residents who donated, volunteers, and shoppers who participated in the event. The sponsors essential to this project were Rooted Plumbing & Heating and Fortress Windows & Doors who committed to matching the first $2,000 of sales. The next sale is scheduled for next spring, and everyone is encouraged to save their clothes throughout the year in preparation.
