London Drugs’ Stocking Stuffers for Seniors

Many senior Canadians are grappling with the challenges of maintaining their budgets amidst inflation and constantly soaring prices. A majority of low-income seniors have reported running out of money to fulfil basic needs, such as buying food regularly. In the midst of this situation, “Stocking Stuffers for Seniors” is a noble initiative by a Canadian company, London Drugs, that aims to provide essential support and bring joy to the lives of seniors who may be experiencing financial hardship.

Stockings for Seniors is underway at all 80 London Drugs stores in Western Canada. London Drugs has stated that the program has helped more than 75,000 seniors since it began in 2015. According to London Drugs, this initiative is aimed at “letting our seniors know that they are not forgotten over the holidays and that their community truly cares about their well-being”.

London Drugs is a 100% Canadian-owned retail pharmacy chain headquartered in Richmond, British Columbia. The company has a presence across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia, with over 80 stores employing more than 8000 staff dedicated to providing a superior shopping experience to customers.

Now in its 7th year, Stocking Stuffers for Seniors has been active since November 12, 2023, at all London Drugs locations across Western Canada. With a challenging economy and the persistent slowdown since COVID-19, this has been another challenging year, especially for seniors with little to no support. The Stocking Stuffers for Seniors program partners with local care homes and charities with a mission to bring more holiday cheer to seniors. Here’s how the program works:

  1. Customers can visit any London Drugs stores and head over to the store’s Christmas Tree for a Stocking Stuffers for Seniors gift tag. Each tag contains a wish list from a local senior, or a general “wish list” from a participating local care home or charitable partner organization. This year, you may also see very specific needs required by care homes. The poster next to the tree should explain each care home’s safety concerns or any modified requests.
  2. Simply purchase (from anywhere) or bring new, non-gift-wrapped items, along with the gift tag, to the store’s Customer Service Counter by the delivery date. For even more Christmas cheer, customers are encouraged to include a personalized Christmas Card with their gifts.
  3. All London Drugs stores ensure that the gifts are delivered to local care homes and charitable partner organizations. As an appreciation for its customers customers that participate in this program, London Drugs offers 500-1000 LDExtras bonus points as rewards.
